Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday called upon the members of the armed forces to work together to build a nation free from corruption, poverty and hunger.
She also asked them to stay always prepared for the first and foremost duty of safeguarding the independence and sovereignty of the country even at the cost of the last drop of blood.
The premier was addressing the combined president’s parade of the newly commissioned officers of Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force at Bangladesh Military Academy at Bhatiary in Chittagong in the morning, reports our staff correspondent in Chittagong.
Sheikh Hasina said Bangabandhu had realised the necessity of building a strong and ideal armed force immediately after the independence.
Accordingly, Bangladesh Military Academy was set up at Comilla Cantonment in 1974, she added.
Addressing the first president’s parade of the first batch cadet of BMA on January 11, 1975, Bangabandhu said, “I want to see a Sonar Bangla,” the prime minister mentioned in her speech.
A total of 183 cadets including 125 cadets from army, 32 midshipmen from navy and 23 flight cadets from air force were commissioned in today’s ceremony.
Besides, five army cadets, and five midshipmen cadets from Palestine and one midshipmen cadet from the Maldives were commissioned through this parade.
Battalion Senior Under officer Shafiur Rahman was adjudged with the best all-round cadet in the 61st BMA long course and awarded with the sword of honour.
Midshipmen Md Abdullah Al Momin of Midshipmen Batch 2008A was awarded with sword of honour for his best performance among the naval cadets.
Flight cadet Sergeant Md Saiful Monir was awarded with the sword of honour for his best performance among the flight cadets.
